About this spot
The Karen Demirtchian Sport/Concert Complex is a large multi-purpose venue on a hilltop west of Yerevan city centre.
Built in 1983, it closed shortly afterwards after suffering a fire. Later re-opening, it was renamed in 1999 to the current name - Karen Demirtchian - after the parliamentary speaker who was assassinated in the Armenian parliament shooting.
In the mid 2000's the complex was sold and underwent a renovation, the cost of which ballooned to $42 million, and re-opened in 2008. It's been sold a couple of times since, firstly to the Armenian Ministry of Defence, then a private investment group. Junior Eurovision was apparently held here in 2022.
