About this spot
Located in the Atelier de Capucins, the Imperial Barge(also known as "La Grande Hermine") is a historic boat that was built in 1817 for the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. The barge was designed as a floating palace, complete with luxurious furnishings and decorations, and was used for ceremonial purposes such as state visits and official parades.

The Imperial Barge is a unique and impressive example of French naval architecture and craftsmanship. It measures 44 meters long and 8 meters wide and is powered by 24 oarsmen. The barge is decorated with intricate carvings, gildings, and paintings, and is topped with a large golden eagle, a symbol of the French Empire.

The barge has had a fascinating and eventful history. It was used by Napoleon during his reign, and later by his successors, including King Louis-Philippe and Emperor Napoleon III. The barge was also used by the French navy during the 19th and 20th centuries, and was even captured and used by the German navy during World War II.
